A three-day program designed for Massachusetts school nutrition directors to strengthen their knowledge of school nutrition program requirements. Education specialists from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Office for Nutrition, Health, and Safety Programs will provided essential training on meal benefit issuance, resource management and food service operations.

2015 - 2016 Nuts & Bolts of School Nutrition Programs
Ongoing Training Series
Are you looking to increase your knowledge about and ability to implement the USDA National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs? This training series will provide you with the vital information and skills to improve program operations. Opportunities throughout the year will include both in-person and online sessions. Those who complete the entire series will receive recognition at the Healthy Kids, Healthy Programs Summit in May 2016 and a letter of recognition will be sent to your school leadership.
- September 23, 2015 8 am - 4 pm
This in-person and hands-on session reviews how to complete the verification process including direct verification, paper verification, verification data collection reports (742 and 742A). - October 15, 2015 8 am - 4 pm
This in-person session goes over the food safety and HACCP Basics for school food service. The session includes HACCP principles, examples and activities to assist you in feeling more confident implement food safety plans and creating a culture of food safety in your school. - November 19, 2015 8 am - 4 pm
This in-person session provides an in-depth understanding of USDA foods such as DoD Fresh, monthly offer sheets, diversion survey, and making the most of your entitlement dollars. - December 3, 2015 10 am - 11:30 pm
Community Outreach and Engagement. This online session provides you with tips and strategies for engaging the community and reaching out to stakeholders to improve program outreach and success. - January 7, 2016 1 pm - 2:30 pm
Snack Programs. This online session reviews other programs associated with school nutrition programs such as Afterschool snack, At-Risk Snack, and Extended Day snack. - February 10, 2016 10 am - 11:30 pm
Special Dietary Needs. This online session reviews the Special Dietary Needs Manual and how you can incorporate the information into your program. Additionally, participants leaves with a greater understanding of how to meet the nutritional needs of students with special dietary considerations. - March 16, 2016 8 am - 4 pm
This in-person session reviews production records, standardized recipes, using and finding CN labels, and Product Formulation Statements. Participants leaves the training with the necessary strategies and information to incorporate these topics into operation. - April 12, 2016 1 pm - 2:30 pm
Professional Standards. This online session reviews the NEW Professional Standards requirements for school nutrition programs including hiring standards and ongoing training requirements.
