Cooking for Healthy Kids

JSI is thrilled to offer Cooking for Healthy Kids, a unique culinary training opportunity for cooks and cook managers from your school nutrition team serving meals under the USDA program. The program is a collaboration between the Culinary Institute of Child Nutrition and the Culinary Institute of America and is scheduled from June 3-7, 2024, at Framingham State University.

Registration is free and is limited to 20-24 cook and/or cook managers. Participants MUST be available for all five days of the training from June 3-7, 2024 – 6 hours/day.

This training focuses on basic culinary skills needed to prepare and serve more fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and plant-forward menu items while enhancing flavors and meeting the demands of today’s students. The overall goals of the Cooking for Healthy Kids training are to:

  • Improve the culinary skill level of school nutrition professionals.
  • Increase the quality and appeal of meals served to students.
  • Increase the consumption of vegetables, fruits, whole grain, plant protein, and lean meats within the context of balanced menu planning for school-aged children.
