We are thrilled to have Bertrand Weber, Director of Culinary & Wellness Services at Minneapolis Public Schools as a keynote speaker at our Healthy Kids, Healthy Programs Summit on May 23rd, presenting Leading with a Passion for True Food.
Bertrand’s career spans more than forty years of management experience in the hospitality industry and school foodservice. Bertrand managed some of the finest hotels and, in 2003, transitioned to school foodservice at the Hopkins School District, Minnesota.
Bertrand‘s progressive thinking received national recognition, including several University of Minnesota research papers. Since he started at MPS in 2012, salad bars have been introduced in every school, forty-five schools have returned to scratch cooking, and the district is on the leading edge of the Farm-to-School initiative, contracting forward with 14 farms.
This year, he launched both the Plant Protein Challenge initiative and the True Food, No Waste action plan. Currently, Bertrand serves on the IFMA K-12 Advisory Council, CAF Lunch Box, SNCI Advisory Board, Scratch Works, and SNA Professional Development Committee. Bertrand is a recipient of IFMA Silver plate award for the K-12 Segment. (Minneapolis, MN)
As a passionate and true food champion, he believes that change will come when we elevate how great real food is and THAT becomes the norm. In Bertrand’s words, “When the food respects the child, the child respects the food. We are all doing our best with the deck of cards we have been given and the hand changes every single day!” As passionate and resilient leaders, we readjust our game because feeding wholesome real food is the right thing to do for our kids!
