Welcome to The Wellness Solution for Massachusetts
The Wellness Solution for Massachusetts originated in response to the 2003 Healthier US Initiative and Congressional concerns on children's health as outlined in the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004.
In 2010, the "Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act" at the federal level and "An Act Relative to School Nutrition" for Massachusetts set new requirements for school wellness policies and school wellness advisory committees to be met by August 1, 2012. Both sets of guidelines will strengthen local wellness policies, expand community involvement, and ensure broader implementation and evaluation of wellness policies in Massachusetts schools.
The new and improved Wellness Solution for Massachusetts is an updated resource to support and strengthen wellness policies specifically in Massachusetts schools. The site summarizes state and federal regulations to clarify all requirements and help schools streamline policy development and monitoring. We have researched and provided the best tools available to help Massachusetts schools meet these guidelines. The Wellness Solution for Massachusetts is a collaborative effort between:
- Massachusetts Department of Education, Nutrition Health and Safety
- Massachusetts Coordinated School Health
- John C. Stalker Institute of Food and Nutrition at Framingham State University
- USDA, Team Nutrition
- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The Wellness Solution for Massachusetts is made available through grants provided by USDA Team Nutrition and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
