2011 Summer Institute
The 2011 Summer Institute: Unlocking Opportunities, sponsored by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (ESE), in cooperation with the John C. Stalker Institute of Food and Nutrition (JSI) and the School Nutrition Association of Massachusetts took place on August 16, 17, and 18th This three-day conference focused on the many aspects associated with the new regulations for the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.
August 16th was dedicated to new directors, introducing essential USDA and ESE information and resources as well as encouraging networking among child nutrition professionals. Additionally, the School Nutrition Association's SNS Credentialing Exam was offered.
The keynote speaker on August 17th was Janet Schwartz, MS, RD, who presented "Healthy Meals for Healthy Kids: Understanding Nutrition Requirements of Children." Janet engaged the audience with her interactive presentation on the latest nutrition guidelines.

The keynote speaker on August 18th was Christanne Harrison, MPH, RD, who addressed the special dietary needs of students during her presentation, "Key Messages in Feeding Children with Special Nutrition Needs."

This year's SNA Summer Annual Summer Meeting and Reception was held in conjunction with the Summer Institute on Wednesday, August 17th. A reception and dinner including the installation of the 2011-2012 board of directors was held.
