2017 Nuts & Bolts of School Nutrition Programs
This three-day conference was held August 1 - 3, 2017 at Framinghame State University. It is designed for Massachusetts school nutrition directors to strengthen their knowledge of school nutrition program requirements. Education specialists from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, Office for Food and Nutrition Programs will provide essential training on meal benefit issuance, resource management and food service operations.
$40 for individual face-to-face trainings or $120 for the entire series

Are you looking to increase your knowledge about and ability to implement the USDA National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs? This training series will provide you with the vital information and skills to improve program operations. Opportunities throughout the year will include both in-person and online sessions. Those who complete seven or more sessions in series will receive recognition at the Healthy Kids, Healthy Programs Summit in May 2018.
All in person sessions will take place at Framingham State University from 8 am to 4 pm.
All online sessions will take place from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.

Managing Life-Threatening Allergies in Schools — In-Person
This in-person session will provide an overview of the Managing Life-Threatening Allergies in Schools manual. This session will include the scope of the problem of childhood allergies, an overview of life-threatening allergies and anaphylaxis, strategies to prevent and manage allergic reactions, a multidisciplinary team approach to school-wide allergy protocols, emergency management and roles of specific school staff members.

USDA Foods & Inventory Management — In-Person
This in-person session will provide an in-depth understanding of USDA foods such as DoD Fresh, monthly offer sheets, diversion survey, and making the most of your entitlement dollars.

Afterschool Snack, At-Risk Snack, & Extended Day Snack — Online
This online session will review other programs associated with school nutrition programs such as Afterschool snack, At-Risk Snack, and Extended Day snack.

Special Dietary Needs — Online
This online session will review the Special Dietary Needs Manual and how you can incorporate the information into your program. Additionally, participants will leave with a greater understanding of how to meet the nutritional needs of students with special dietary considerations.

Production Records, Recipes, CN Labels, & Product Formulation Statements — In-Person
This in-person session will review production records, standardized recipes, using and finding CN labels, and Product Formulation Statements. Participants will leave the training with the necessary strategies and information to incorporate these topics into operation.

Local Wellness Policies — Online
This online session will review requirements for developing a strong local wellness policy and provide examples and strategies for developing a meaningful policy.
